KNITTED BLANKETS - TIFFANY - EXTRAFINE MERINO WOOL
When I think of Art Nouveau (new art), I think of Tiffany glass lamps. Born in 1848 Louis was the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany – the founder of Tiffany & Co Jewellery. The first Tiffany lamp was created in 1895 a wonderful colourful light filled piece. Louis didn’t restrict himself to only lamps, he created the most breathtaking stained glass windows. I was fascinated to learn that in its early days, Louis tried to source glass with impurities in it using cheap jelly jars and bottles. This cheaper glass had a certain opalescence and opacity that he liked. The pattern on this blanket represents the lead channelling of a Tiffany glass piece coupled with the opaque colourful glass pieces.
