This scarf reminds me of signal flags that ships use in the navy to communicate with one another. In 1803 a gent by the name of Rear Admiral Home Riggs Popham developed a flag signalling code that would eventually be taken on by the Royal Navy. This code amongst others developed later were to become a staple form of communication on the high seas. A code book held by the pilot of each ship deciphers the code. Flags were then used, a different flag for each letter of individual meaning. An example would be a white flag with a red diagonal cross through it, representing the letter ‘V’ for Victor or individually would mean ‘I require assistance’. The code on this scarf will send a strong message to those around you.
