A diverse collection of wind chimes adorns the tree branches at my bedroom window. Lulling me to sleep at night and gently rousing me awake each morning. As the seasons change, their gentle rhythm crescendos to a loud discordant jangling whilst the winds churn through the trees limbs.Historically, wind chimes have been known to keep evil spirits and birds at bay. I’m not so sure what effect they have on the evil spirits or indeed the birds. There’s something about their sound and movement that the possums are seemingly drawn to.
To me the random comforting melodies played as I rest, blanket me with a certain calming reassurance. Like a sixth sense, they gauge my surroundings and protect me. Perhaps a grown-ups version of a baby mobile.
