Zastrugi Beanie

On a recent gallery hop, we visited an exhibition of a collection of photographs taken at the South Pole.  As with many exhibitions, there is quite often a stand out piece.  One rather large black and white photograph graced the back wall of the room.  Taken from an ants eye view, the lense spanned far across a baron piece of icy landscape.  Formations in the ice created by wind erosion disguised the land as an endless frosty ocean.  This type of erosion is called zastrugi.  Similar to sand in the desert, the snow Antarctica ‘s desert is dry and and easily blown around, creating the sand dunes. Unlike their sand cousins, these dunes ridges are parallel to prevailing winds.
